In response to some recent press coverage, NHS Thurrock CCG would like to advise that we do not commission the Minor Ailments Scheme so it is not available to NHS patients across Thurrock. However you can still get free medical advice from your qualified local pharmacist for minor ailments.
In some other areas of England, the NHS Minor Ailments Scheme operates a service provided by some pharmacies, depending on their locality. It only applies to patients who do not usually pay for prescriptions (such as children, the elderly or those who have exemption certificates) and is intended to reduce unnecessary GP appointments.
Eligible patients suffering from minor, specific ailments may attend for a private one-to-one consultation with the pharmacist. The pharmacist will offer the patient advice, and may, if appropriate supply a cost effective over-the- counter product without charge or the patient might be referred on to their GP if their symptoms indicate a more serious illness.
