The Thurrock 100 Festival aims to bring the people of Thurrock together and get them active by inviting them along to its ten 10-mile walks.
Everyone is welcome and participants can walk, wheel or push as little or as much as they wish. You can find more information on the Thurrock 100 Festival website, including details on how to sign up to take part in individual walks and receive the latest news.
The routes have been selected by local people and include some of the best of what Thurrock has to offer, including historic landmarks and beauty spots. The 10 walks take place over 10 consecutive days, beginning in Ockendon on 9 July and ending at Grays Beach Park during the Village Beach Festival on 18 July 2015.
A series of silk painting workshops and walking activities have also been organised. During the walks, flag bearers will carry the flags, which depict features chosen as the best parts of the area.
Overall, the walks will take in Horndon-on-the-Hill, Bulphan, Orsett, Purfleet, Stanford, Chafford Hundred, Aveley, Tilbury, Chadwell St Mary, and Stifford Clays. They have all been designed so everyone, regardless of age, ability and background, is able to take part - doing as little or as much as they choose.
Thurrock Council public health team, in partnership with Kinetika and Thurrock CVS have teamed up with local charities, Thurrock Community Forums, the Art Council and the local ramblers to organise the walking Festival. It follows on from the success of the last year's Beat the Street, which saw thousands of local people take up walking.
