Course teaching calming techniques to expectant mothers

The maternity team at Basildon Hospital are offering a course to help expectant mothers to stay calm and relaxed during pregnancy and birth.

The hypnobirthing course is provided by trained midwives from Basildon Hospital. For four weeks women will learn a number of hypnosis techniques that teach them how to relax, breathe and trust there body to know what to do instinctively.

Each week, there will be a two and a half hour course covering a range of topics including self-hypnosis, mind/body connection, breathing, body positions, prenatal bonding, medical intervention and many others. Click on the link below for a full topic list for each class:

Birthing programme content 

All the course material is provided by WiseHippo, a company specialising in hypnosis and birthing. The course costs £100 plus an extra £21 for materials, which included an easy to follow manual and 7 relaxing mp3s to support learning at home.

If you can’t get to the hospital, the dates are inconvenient or you would simply feel more comfortable learning hypnobirthing from home, the same 10-hour course is now available to small groups online via skype. Additional support is also available through the Facebook support group. The closed group provides support from the hypnobirthing midwives and provides a place where you can share experiences with others. You can join after providing confirmation for booking.

The BTUH hypnobirthing team advise that you book classes after 20 weeks and before 34 weeks.
