Dr Vikram Bhat has been named the new Macmillan GP for Thurrock. Dr Bhat, who runs Sai Medical Centre will be focusing on improving outcomes for people in Thurrock, from diagnosing to treatment, recovery and end of life. He will work with GPs to improve access to education, commissioning of cancer services and providing practical support for GP to help them identify and manage people with cancer.
Macmillan GPs also work towards improving communication between professionals within hospitals and voluntary services and the East of England Cancer Alliance.
Dr Bhat said:
“I am passionate about improving cancer care and rates of survival. We have a lot to do in Thurrock and with the support of Macmillan, I am keen to work closely with commissioners and wider healthcare professionals to make an impact, including speeding up diagnosis and access to treatments.”

“We know that cancer diagnosis and access to early treatment is so important in improve outcomes for people in Thurrock. Our wait times for treatment and survival could be improved and this is something we are working on across mid and south Essex STP. By having a specialist GP to focus on cancer we are hoping that we can work together to improve things for our patients.”
